High caregiver turnover
Unclear expectations, inconsistent schedules, weak supervision, and rushed onboarding can compound an already difficult retention environment.
Home care HR consulting
Home care agencies operate through people working across homes, shifts, clients, and changing schedules. When HR processes remain informal, workforce instability quickly becomes an operational problem.
Caregiver recruitment is only one piece of the system. Agencies also need reliable credential tracking, onboarding, availability management, attendance expectations, supervisor communication, employee records, performance documentation, and escalation processes. Holt Workforce Strategies helps agency leaders examine how those elements connect and where inconsistency is creating risk, turnover, or avoidable management work.
Unclear expectations, inconsistent schedules, weak supervision, and rushed onboarding can compound an already difficult retention environment.
Credentials, background checks, acknowledgments, training, availability, and performance documentation may be stored inconsistently or owned by different people.
A call-in process requires clear reporting, escalation, coverage responsibility, documentation, and management follow-through.
Coordinators, house leaders, nurses, and administrators may apply different expectations when roles and decision authority are unclear.
Urgent staffing needs can move employees into service before training, records, expectations, and operational handoffs are fully aligned.
Policies may describe procedures that staffing levels, scheduling systems, or managers cannot consistently support.
How we help
Engagements may include an HR and workforce assessment, employee-file review, policy and handbook work, onboarding design, job descriptions, call-in and attendance processes, manager documentation tools, retention analysis, workforce dashboards, and fractional HR guidance.
The objective is not to add paperwork for its own sake. It is to make ownership visible, expectations usable, and recurring workforce decisions more consistent.
Discuss your agencyIn prior HR leadership work in residential elder care, founder Skylar Holt worked on recruiting, onboarding, scheduling, employee relations, and multi-location workforce systems. Representative outcomes from that employment include weekly call-ins falling from 14 to approximately 3–5 and time to start reaching 4–5 days. These are prior-employment results, not Holt consulting client results or guarantees.
The practical lesson is to connect written expectations with reporting channels, supervisor ownership, training handoffs, and follow-through. Each client engagement begins by examining its own conditions.
Holt is based in Wichita, Kansas. Wichita-area in-person work and remote consulting are agreed in the proposal, including participating locations, meetings, record access, and deliverables.
Your organization supplies accurate records, assigns decision-makers, approves policies, and owns employment decisions. Holt provides the agreed assessment, documents, process guidance, or training. Clinical competencies, licensing decisions, and legal interpretation remain with the appropriate specialists.
If several systems need diagnosis, the $1,500 workforce assessment provides findings and priorities. If the need is already clear, request a focused project; a broader assessment is not required for every document or toolkit.
The hiring manager confirms the accepted offer and start date; the HR coordinator tracks agreed records and orientation; operations or the appropriate clinical specialist confirms role-specific readiness; the supervisor follows up after the first shift. The final readiness decision stays with the authorized employer owner.
Review how many starts are delayed by missing handoffs, which items remain open, and who resolves them. A toolkit is useful when the process exists but needs consistency; a program redesign fits when ownership is fragmented.
